This week was kind of slow. I worked on a bunch of bank recs and did some filing. Kim showed me where the keys were for the "magic closet". Its a big cabinet with offices supplies. I put labels on the filing cabinets that Kim had moved earlier in the week. I didn't really do a whole lot this week now that I think about it... I went in to work Saturday and talked with Kim and Bobby about my car problems. Bobby told me to take my car to Redline Automotive down the street. They had it fixed in just a few hours for a reasonable price.
This week was great, as always. I did a few bank recs and a few payrolls for Bobby. I think I'm doing better with the bank recs. I can usually get the top and bottom to balance, but I always have trouble trying to get the left side to balance with the top and bottom. The payrolls are easy, but I cant ever remember how to print the right reports. I helped Kim make bags to give to clients, and I helped her pull/ put away files. Pulling files is easy, the hard part is trying to get the files back inside the cabinets. We've been trying to move files around so we have more room in the cabinets but its hard because you never know for sure how much room you should leave. If you don't leave enough room, you have to move things again. If you leave too much room, you run out of cabinets and have to move things again. Its a loose- loose situation. Kim also taught me how to mail different things and record them in the book. Beth had me add up sales tax. That's not hard, just time consuming.
A lot has changed since the last trimester. Working after school has helped me get better with talking to clients face to face and on the phone. Actually, on Saturday Kim and I were talking with April and she mentioned how much I talk now compared to when I first started. I was really quiet before and now I'm more comfortable joining conversations with everybody in the office. I've improved with the payrolls and bank recs. Last trimester Bobby or Beth would have to sit with me when I did bank recs because I would always make mistakes. Now I'm able to balance (most of the time) without help. I'm still working on figuring out the left side of the bank recs, but its getting easier. I also want to get better with printing payroll reports. This week was pretty good. Beth got some new stuff in so I sorted and added it up for her. I did a payroll for Bobby and he also showed me how to type up invoices. (I think that's what they were, I can't remember). Karen did my taxes for me and it was pretty cool to be able to put away my own file. She also showed me how to fax stuff because I forgot how. I worked with Kim a lot this week. She had me put together bags to give to clients. I had to put a pen and a calendar in a bag and then put the bag in a drawer. She showed me how to print labels on envelops. It was really easy, but if you put more than a couple envelops in at a time the printer gets "jammed". Kim and I also moved files around in the filing cabinets to make more room. We boxed up a bunch of old companies and we were able to file away a couple files that we didn't have room for. Oh! And we found decorative bricks inside the cabinets! Kim gave me a Saint Clair Shoresopoly game that looks awesome but I haven't gotten the chance to play it yet.
Things that make me happy 1. My job 2. My family 3. My ferret and cat 4. My friends 5. Banana coffee 6. Nice weather 7. Caring people 8. The beach This week was great! I worked with Kim a lot this week. She had me stamp envelopes, fold letters, and pull/ put away files. She also taught me how to use the mail machine and change the tape in my calculator. It was a pretty easy week. On Saturday Bobby had me do a payroll that took me forever to put in the computer. When I finished, my numbers were off so I then had to go through everything again and look for the mistakes. I put in the same information for two different people by accident, but it took a long time to figure that out. I also seen a few people that I know on Saturday! One was my friends dad and the other was my old lunch mom from elementary school. I feel like I'm missing something with this post, but I cant think of what it is. Sorry its not longer this week! (Kim told me to take pictures of everything this week, so I did )
This week was great! I just worked on adding stuff up and answering phones. I started working after school on Wednesday. It wasn't that busy. It went by really fast. I only answered a couple phones and only made two or three appointments. The rest of the time I was adding stuff up for Beth and Bobby, and doing little things for Kim. Kim had me stamp envelopes and file things. Kim also told me I'll be working after school 3- 7 Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and Saturday Mornings. On Febuary 17th Jason McElwain was the star of the show. He proved to everybody that even though he is autistic, he can still do everything the same as anybody else. He gave families hope for their children. Life goes on and you have to make the best of every situation. With hard work and dedication, he scored the winning points for his team. Besides working in an accounting office, I really haven't had any dreams become a reality. My experience was great this week. I didn't go Monday because I had to watch my brother since there wasn't school, but the rest of the week was nice. I added a few things up for Beth, I did a few bank recs for Bobby, and they are showing me how to answer phones. The first bank rec Bobby had me do was really challenging and I had a hard time with it. I did my best but I couldn't get the numbers to equal. Bobby took a look and helped me out. The second bank rec I did I was able to finish easily. It was probably the easiest one I have done. The third one I did felt easy, but when I was done the numbers didn't equal. After going over all my numbers several times I was able to find the problem. There was an outstanding check from June that had actually cleared, but it was showing up that it didn't clear. Figuring out where the problem was by myself was a really good feeling. On Thursday Beth had me go through a bunch of envelopes and pull out employee time cards and add them up. It was an easy week, and I'm happy I got to work on bank recs and I'm happy they are showing me how to set up appointments.
If I won the Powerball Jackpot I would make sure my family was taken care of. We recently found out that my 8 year old brother, Matthew, has a bad heart and will soon need open heart surgery to correct the problem. He will have to have multiple surgeries throughout his life to make sure that everything is functioning properly. I would pay for the procedure, and then put money aside for the other procedures he will need throughout the rest of his life. I would give my parents money so they could leave their jobs because my mom is a nurse and my dad is a contractor and their jobs are really hard on their bodies. I would put money aside for my sister, brother, and I to go to college. I don't really know what else I would spend money on. My family is most important to me though and I would make sure that they are taken care of before I decided to spend any money on myself or anybody else. I would not quit my job. I believe working is an important part of living and I cant imagine myself not working. This week was pretty good. Kind of a slow week though. I did some sorting, adding, and shredding on Monday and Tuesday. I didn't go on Wednesday because of the early release. On Thursday I started doing a bank rec for Bobby but I ran out of time so I didn't get to finish it. Beth also asked me if I would be interested in working after school a few days a week. She is starting to train me on phones and to make appointments. :)
I think my biggest problem is time and money management. I feel like I never have enough time for anything anymore. Between school, work, homework, and other responsibilities, there isn't a whole lot of free time left. I really enjoyed the video. I've never had a problem with procrastination but I know a lot of people who do. When I have homework or projects to do I like to get it done as soon as possible. Leaving it until last minute is stressful. This week was pretty easy. I worked on a bank rec Tuesday and Wednesday. When I was done, my numbers were way off and I spent a bunch of time trying to figure out where I made my mistake but I couldn't find it. After asking for help, we realized that my formulas weren't right so I didn't actually make a mistake. It was just the program. On Thursday I added up a bunch of stuff for Bobby. My calculator isn't working right so they ordered a new one for me to use. Although I didn't do a lot this week, I did do a lot over break. I did a bank rec for Beth, learned how to use their monster paper shredder, I cleaned up the file cabinets a little by taking out older files, and I added/ sorted a bunch of stuff for Beth and Bobby.
At BRS they are really easy to work with. There have only been a few times where I was late/ called in but Beth didn't really seem to mind. I am almost always there on time. I usually get there around 9:15 AM. I feel how timely somebody is really says a lot about them. I really enjoyed this weeks article because I am always on time and I hate being late. I completely agree with the title. To me, 5 minutes early is on time, and on time is late. Any job I have ever worked I have always showed up at least 5 minutes before the start of my shift. Being late is lazy. Yes, it happens every once in a while, but being late once in a while is completely different than being late every day. It is disrespectful and not fair to your coworkers. This week was much like last week. I worked on sorting the gas station Bobby gave to me. I thought I had finished it on Wednesday, but Bobby forgot to give me all of the boxes. I'm almost done with the last box though. It should be done by Monday. Bobby also had me insert data into an excel table. It was super easy, but there is nothing that tells you if your numbers are inserted right or not so I had to be extra careful and check my work really well.
I really like this article because I feel like I connect with a lot of the numbers on the list of things to give up. I've been doing a lot better at giving up most of them and I've become a more positive person because of that, but relating to my job I think I connect best with #1. There have been a few times where I am handed a task that I just don't find as interesting as the others, or a task that is harder than the others. Sometimes I just wish I could choose not to do it, but I know that if I don't at least try to get it done I will never learn how to do it. This experience I am getting is amazing, but if I pick and choose what I want to do I wont get to experience all that this opportunity has to offer. |
