My second week at BRS Accounting went great! I'm getting more comfortable with the people I work with and I really enjoy being there. This week Beth had me sorting through paperwork and organizing it by month. Once I get the paperwork sorted by month I then have to sort that month by purchases, supplies, bank information, services, repairs, etc. It doesn't seem like fun but I like doing it. Beth has also taught me how to insert new employees into payroll. I enjoy doing that too, but it isn't always easy to read peoples handwriting. I didn't know I was going to get paid for this experience, but I got my first check from them on Thursday! I really like the experience I'm getting at BRS Accounting so far! There really isn't a whole lot wrong with the BRS Accounting office. It isn't really a messy place or anything and the atmosphere is really nice. If I had to change something though I would probably repaint the office a brighter color. The office isn't dark or anything but the white walls are really boring. I would also buy new desks and cabinets for the office because the desks and cabinets they have there look pretty old. I would try to find something to take care of some of the clutter too. It isn't bad, but there is a little bit. There really isn't a lot to change there though. |

My first week at BRS Accounting was amazing! I was a little nervous going in but everybody there is so friendly and helpful! My employer, Beth, has taught me a lot so far. She has gotten me used to the "10 digit" calculator and she has had me sorting through months of paperwork and receipts and putting them into piles of "purchases, supplies, auto, utilities, etc." and adding up the totals. I'm sure that sounds boring to most people, but I enjoy it. She tells me that its going to get harder come next month, but I'm ready for it. She has also told me that she might want me to stay and help during tax season if I do well these next few months. (:
Audri's video was so cute! I loved it! He is so creative and I like how he didn't give up when his monster trap failed the first three tries. He could have easily said "I'm done" after the third try, but then he would have never known how close he was to success. Something that looks difficult at work would be the computer programs and sometimes the sorting is difficult because everything is out of place. I will succeed by not giving up with things are getting hard. I will always put in my best effort and I know if I'm really stuck on something, I have a full office of people to help me out. The article, Why 20% time is good for schools by AJ Juliani was about how great “20% time” is. In his article he explained how giving students 20% time will give them the opportunity to be creative with what they’ve learned. It gives them the chance to make a song, draw a picture, or even makes a small movie about whatever it is they have been learning about, instead of just doing the same thing as everybody else. He mentions how the atmosphere in classrooms are happier and better with 20% time because everybody comes together to learn about their peers interests. I really like the idea of 20% time. It gives us a chance to learn in whatever way we learn best. I think 20% time is a great idea because nobody has the same exact learning path. Some of us can’t just read a book, and then go write a report on that book. As the article said, with 20% time those who have a hard time doing some of those things have the opportunity to show what they learned in a way that is best for them. I like the idea most because it just gives people a little more freedom and it gives them the chance to be creative. My goal for this trimester is to learn more about how accounting works. To accomplish my goal I will pay close attention to what my employer does/ says. I will get hands on experience working with them. I am also hoping that with the training I will receive I will become more “college ready”. prepared (http://definr.com/prepared) adj 1: made ready or fit or suitable beforehand; "a prepared statement"; "be prepared for emergencies" [ant: unprepared] 2: having made preparations; "prepared to take risks" [syn: disposed(p), fain, inclined(p)] 3: equipped or prepared with necessary intellectual resources; "graduates well equipped to handle such problems"; "equipped to be a scholar" curriculum (http://definr.com/curriculum) n : a course of academic studies; "he was admitted to a new program at the university" [syn: course of study, program, syllabus]
I hope that from being in this career field experience course I learn more about what I need to do to become an accountant. I'm hoping to gain a new level of experience in the field that I want to go in to. I want to learn more about what accountants do and what they need to do to become an accountant. I am most excited about getting to do something I really enjoy doing and learning something new. I'm excited for the hands on experience that I can not get here at school. The only thing I'm a little nervous about is meeting the people I will be working with. Other than that, I am super excited for this new experience.
