Got my new printer! :) |

This week was fun. Bobby gave me six gas stations to sort through. Usually when I sort through papers I have to add the different piles up but Bobby said that he had to go through and find out how things were paid for before we could add them up. It took me two days to sort through everything. When I was done he had me enter in data for a small payroll. That was easy but I ended up making a small mistake with somebodys and had to go back in and fix it. After fixing the issue I went back in and reprinted the papers I needed and everything was perfect. I'm not sure how next week will go yet with our days off and everything but If there is a day I can stay later I would like to do that. Beth gave me a really nice letter of recommendation. She said that I'm a fast learner which was nice to hear because I thought I was sort of slow.
There have been many tasks that I have wanted to give up on. Especially working at BRS Accounting. Mostly with bank recs though, those are difficult sometimes but I'm getting better because I haven't given up. This week there wasn't a whole lot to do. We got new filing cabinets on Monday and they look really nice. Bobby and Mike put them together and it was funny listening to them argue about the different ways to do it. All I really did this week was payroll, sorting, adding, and I put envelopes and folders together for Kim. Payroll is probably my favorite thing to do there. Sometimes it is a challenge but for the most part, it is fairly easy. Beth only needed 3 boxes sorted through this week. All three were gas stations and those are really easy. The little work I did for Kim was pretty easy too. She just needed me to staple envelopes to folders.
I really agree with James. Participation trophys shouldn't be a thing. Kids should have to earn trophys. Earning a trophy is much more rewarding than just being handed a trophy. I had fun this week. There wasn't a whole lot to do but it was still a good week. On Monday Kim showed me how to do "filler work". It's really just filing papers into different filing cabinets. It was fun to see all the different names of businesses they take care of. I didn't go on Tuesday because I had to watch my little brother while my dad was at work, but Beth said it was fine because her kids were coming in to help out anyway. On Wednesday and Thursday i did a few payrolls and more filler work. My computer is really old so the downloads needed to enter payroll won't work, so I always have to use somebody else's computer. We are also getting new filing cabinets because some of ours are really old so Beth and I had to move files into other rooms to make room for the new stuff. We also bought back paperwork from 2009 to be shredded because they are no longer needed.
I believe it is important to be honest because your employer should always be able to trust you. Your relationship with your boss will grow in a better direction if he or she can trust you. I feel I am a very trustworthy person. i My experience this week was pretty good, but it was really short. The weeks we have an early release, I only go Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. It was still a good week though. There wasn't a whole lot to do this week. Beth hasn't needed my help for much the past few weeks, but Bobby has me doing a lot for him. He had me sorting through different folders this week and adding things up. He also had me do a bank rec on my own, for the most part. They are still a little tricky, but they're getting easier. My calculator kept jamming too so he had one of the ladys in the office order me a new one. There wasn't much for me to do on Thursday so Bobby had me enter stuff for payroll. He then showed me how to check the totals to make sure everything was right and what forms to print so we could fax it over. He also showed me how to work the fax machine because I haven't ever used one before. I didn't get a chance to take a picture with my employer. I've only seen a few of those Ted Talks videos but I really liked this one. Its pretty sweet that he got this couple together just from a sucker. I haven't really changed anybodys life where I work but I do believe I've changed my bestfriends life. She was having a really hard time with her life, close to giving up, and I did everything I could to help her. We've been best friends for six years now. She has changed my life too, she brings out the best in me and I don't know what I would do without her. My little brother has also changed my life. That boy means the world to me and I can't picture life without him. His smile lights up my life. The program we use for payrollAs always, I had another great week at BRS Accounting. I didn't do a whole lot for Beth but I was sorting stuff for bobby earlier in the week. Bobby walked me through my first Bank Rec on Wednesday. It was really confusing at first and its really hard to explain but I had fun doing it. When we went to check that everything equaled, we were off by a few thousand dollars. We found the problem pretty quick though. Once we fixed that we realized we were still off by twelve dollars and it took us a little while to figure out why. We forgot to add in the bank fee. On Thursday I stayed longer because we didn't have school. Bobby had me input data for checks. When I was finished with that he gave me piles of check stubs to go through and add up. I also extended my experience throughout second trimester. Ill be working at the same time. (:
My experience this week was pretty good. I didnt do a whole lot though. Bobby had me doing stuff for him a lot this week. He needed stuff to be sorted and to be added up. He showed me what everything i added up goes towards which i thought was really interesting. After i sort and add things he puts them in financial reports. Beth had me adding sales tax, which is sometimes a pain in the butt but it isnt too bad. My goal is to try to make it a whole week without making any mistakes. I havent reached that goal just yet but i am doing better. I really want to extend my experience throughout next trimester.
Beth gave me a really good evaluation. My strongest areas are teamwork, organization, and initiative. She says i am good with problem solving and that i work willingly with others. I prioritize well, i am respectful, and i seek assistance when necessary. My weaknesses are with time. I work slowly, especially when im adding things up. Im getting better with that but i still like moving slower because i make fewer mistakes that way. Im going to try to work faster these next few weeks. This week, as always, was amazing! Monday was kind of slow, i just had to sort through a few different folders of paperwork. On Tuesday and Wednesday, they had me insert data for payroll. That part was fun, but once i finished, i went to to go check my work and realized i was a couple hundred dollars over what i was supposed to be. I then had to go through the reports and find out where my mistakes were. I had doubled checks for three people and made a mistake with one persons tips.Thankfully, it was an easy fix. They didn't seem too upset with my mess up, they just told me that it was good practice. Beth and Bobby told me that i did a good job with my first payroll, especially with it being a larger business.:) My favorite quote from the page was "just keep swimming" by Dory from Finding Nemo. To me, this means that no matter what you should never give up. You should always keep trying because eventually, you will get somewhere.
